I interviewed 4 people who had seen our thriller opening and asked them what they thought about it.
Q.1) What do you think of the our thriller opening film ?
A) I really enjoyed it. It kept me suspense from the beginning to the end which is why i love movies like that. The story was very believable, it is a type of movie you would see in the real movies. Very dramatic and keeping the audience awake waiting for something happening. I liked the black and white effects in the beginning which you only saw the colour red which was only when the lift was coming down and it said the 'ground floor' and the 'blood' on the shirt which was very dramatic. Also i liked the ending when the 3 people walked into the room and the man was there waiting with objects and it ended there. I wanted to see what would happen next which kept me excited.
Q.2) Any negative stuff about the opening film ?
A) It wasn't so clear when the 3 people walked into the building separately. The camera was shaking and you couldn't really be able to see the actors and actress face expression.
Q.3) What kind of target audience is the movie aimed at for ?
A) Mostly the people who watch thriller and action movies. Very suitable for teenagers above 15 and for young adults. The certificate says 15 anyways. But i'm guessing teenagers under 15 would love to watch this as well.
Q.4) Any favourite parts of the thriller opening ?
A) My favourite part was the end when the scary guy just kept having objects in his hand and pouring liquid onto the floor which made me think what is he doing and who is he. Then when the 3 people were following the signs which they the actors and actress didnt know where it would lead them and made the audience think the same, we had no clue. We just waiting for something dramatic to happen. Then when they walked in to the room. You could see the scary guy looking at all 3 which they were all scared. I really wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Evaluation Q.3 The Audience For My Product
Jonathan Peters is a 19 year old who studies business marketing and law. He has enjoyed to watch thriller and action movies ever since he first saw the movie 'Hitman' He likes films which excite him with a lot of action which keeps him awake and be anxiety to what is going to happen next. He lives in a central area in London. He travels to university on the weekdays which is in Bedford and stays from monday to friday. On the weekends he has free time to go out with his mates, play football in the local park and go to bars or clubbing.
What he wears is what a typical teenager would. The latest brand clothes from Franklin and Marshall, Superdry or Ralph Lauren. He would normally wear a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt, Chinos from Franklin and Marshall and Converses or Vans. He likes to describe himself as a fashionable boy.
I would say Jonathan fits in perfect as a target audience of my film 'Nameless' The movie is authorised for viewers above the age 15 and he enjoys films such as action thriller.

Evaluation, Question 1; In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When it came to creating 'Nameless', my group was inspired by a variety of films.
After watching a documentary in class called : 'Watching BBC Beginnings', we discovered the idea of 'instant arousal', this is when an audience is entertained from the very beginning because of a dramatic opening. The 'Naked Kiss', is a film that does exactly that, the opening, is of a woman brutally attacking a man with a knife, throughout this scene various titles are shown and when the victim dies, the title of the movie appears. This is very similar to 'Nameless' being that the opening begins with our leading character staggering out of a lift with blood pouring from his shirt, after this occurs, he falls to the ground and the title 'Nameless' appears.
The order of our title sequence is similar to The 'Naked Kiss'. The first title is of the production company 'Allied Artists', then the drama begins, after this, the actors/actresses are introduced ' starring CONSTANCE TOWERS as Kelly', then music editor, the film editor, the writer and lastly the director.
Even though we were inspired by this opening, we still made our opening unique and different but we still employed similar conventional elements from other thriller movies within our opening. In the documentary we watched we learnt about the downsides of having a opening that instantly aroused the audience, because it gives too much away. Even though our opening is similar to The 'Naked Kiss', it is different because the audience does not know who attacked our leading character, we did this so that the audience could question the situation but also because we did not want to give too much information way in the beginning of the movie, to ensure that the entire film would be effective.

Evaluation, Question 2; Social Groups
Q2.How does your media product represent particular social groups.
When creating 'Nameless' we wanted our characters to represent people aged between 20 to 30 years old. The reason why we decided to do this is because the characters are meant to be young, city professionals. What makes our thriller suspenseful is the fact that the audience would not expect the characters to be involved in something negative, it makes them question the situation.
To represent particular social groups we used different types of Mise en Scene and camera shots. Our opening is similar to a movie called : 'Collateral' , there are a lot of similarities with 'Collateral' and 'Nameless' because it was a film that we was inspired by.
Here are some examples of how we used props, costumes, and locations to represent a particular social group;
Costumes
Each character was dressed in a business wear conveying their social group (professional business workers) and their age. We would expect business people to be dressed in a suit and generally we would expect adults to be dressed in suits for the obvious reasons like work. The use of clothing in our opening contributed to the actors roles being more realistic. This is very similar to 'Collateral' being that most of the characters are in suits to convey their social group.
Props ; Mobile phone
We used mobiles, to represent a social group.Although blackberries are now associated with a large majority of all age groups and social classes, they were originally targeted at business people. By business people I mean professions who work in city jobs like banking. We therefore made our characters all use blackberries connotes that the characters using them are professional business workers and this is how we wanted to represent the characters. This is very similar to 'Collateral' being that there is a scene where one of the characters are on their mobile phone, to connote their, profession and social group.
Taxi
We originally had a scene where one character arrives at a location in a taxi. However the taxi was a black taxi and these are not only traditional British vehicles but represent a form of transport for the higher social classes. Usually you wouldn’t see school children get a taxi to school but business professional and inner city workers regularly take this form of transport to work and around. Black Taxis are fairly expensive. Consequently by using this form of transport we wanted the characters to be represented as middle class professionals and we wanted them to appear like they were wealthy. Once again, this is similar to 'Collateral' being that a taxi is used, it forms the basis of the entire plot.
Barclays Bike
There is also a scene in the film where a character gets off a Barclays Bicycle. Our film was filmed in London; people within our target audience are likely to be from London, because they can relate to the movie. Therefore we can assume they know these bikes are aimed at people heading into inner city work, this connotes that the character works in the city and it represents the fact that the character as older then the actual actor is.
Location (Apartment):
Lastly we used a high market apartment to film the phone scene where the main character comes out of a lift. The location makes the audience associate the character with wealth and style because the surroundings are up market and in association with wealthy people. This is very similar to 'Collateral' being that various wealthy locations are used to represent a particular social group.
Question 6 -Audience feedback and comment
Our opening movie was shown today to our class, students aged 16 & 17. This was going to be the first time anyone has seen our opening so it was really important for us to get feedbacks because this movie is aimed for teenagers and adults so the audience today fitted well. We got a lot of positive feedbacks from the audience which was a great sign to our forthcoming opening which we will show to the whole media department. Our audience said to us our thriller opening looked professional and it had a great storyline that builded suspense throughout the whole film. The audience also commented on our greyscale which they noticed and thought it was great idea showing it at the beginning and only showing the colour red. Our group will be satisfied to know we did not get any bad remarks about our thriller opening which was a great relief.
I took most of our audiences comments which they wrote down and put it on a program called 'Wordle' which jumbles up the words and highlights the most effective comments.

First Thoughts on completing the Film
We have finally completed editing our opening thriller sequence. This has been a fun and enjoying film to make and plan. Across the journey we have learned how the production process of creating a film needs to be carefully planned and organised. Thankfully we have completed the film to the best quality we could within the time limit and resources available to us. Everyone within our group has worked hard to please the needs of the audience in terms of the editing, filming, and sound techniques involved. Personally as the Director I feel my Filming techniques have improved and my Editing has skills have become more advanced and theses skills will hopefully continue to develop and progress when I film again.
On behalf of my group we would like to thank the media teachers for their contribution, the media technical staff, classmates and peers, and finally we hope you enjoy our opening sequence and please leave comments about our film so that we can improve our film creating skills.

Our New and Improved Animatic Storyboard (NOT IN ORDER OF DATE)
Here is our new and improved animatic storyboard, the only issue with this is that some of the shots are numbered incorrectly because the images were scanned into photoshop however when you watch the slide show the slides are in the correct order, so ignore the numbers above the shot explanations.
ENJOY!
ENJOY!
Our New and Improved Pitch (NOT IN ORDER OF DATE)
After watching through our pitch we decided to make a couple of changes because of the feedback that we received in class, we changed our pitch and change some ideas.
Watch our new and improved pitch below!
Watch our new and improved pitch below!
Our first day of filming was on the 6th of March 2011 on a sunday afternoon. Our two locations was in two different types of buildings in Hoxton. As soon as i arrived we wasted no time what so ever and jumped straight into the act as what we planned the day before. Adam showed me a demostration on what to do and at what precise time to do it in.
Milan and Michaela had put fake blood on my shirt for the audience to see that i have been shot and gasping for help, they tried to make it look fresh, so the blood can drip and it wouldn't dry out. Once we was ready to film i had to get in the lift and close it and waited till they shouted action. I had to open the lift door and act as i am gasping for help, struggling to get up and in shock. I had to do it several times because Adam had to get different shots of it. So i had to remember the same movements and what when i made them movements so when we edit it it could look realistic. I thought it would be a good idea if Milan could take pictures of us acting so then we can add it to our blog and explain at this point what we were doing.
When i had completed my role. I had to do another role which involved everyone. We had to go inside a building looking suspicious like we had just done something dramatic.

The thriller genre can include the following sub-genres, which may include elements of other genres:
- Conspiracy thriller: In which the hero/heroine confronts a large, powerful group of enemies whose true extent only he/she recognizes.
- Crime thriller: This particular genre is a hybrid type of both crime films and thrillers that offers a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime or crimes. These films often focus on the criminal(s) rather than a policeman. Crime thrillers usually emphasise action over psychological aspects. Central topics of these films include serial killers/murders, robberies, chases, shootouts, heists and double-crosses.
- Disaster thriller: In which the main conflict is due to some sort of natural or artificial disaster, such as floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, etc., or nuclear disasters as an artificial disaster.
- Erotic thriller: In which it consists of erotica and thriller. It has become popular since the 1980s and the rise of VCR market penetration.
- Legal thriller: In which the lawyer-heroes/heroines confront enemies outside, as well as inside, the courtroom and are in danger of losing not only their cases but their lives.
- Medical thriller: In which the hero/heroine are medical doctors/personnel working to solve an expanding medical problem.
- Mystery thriller: Suspense films where characters attempt solving, or involved in, a mystery.
- Political thriller: In which the hero/heroine must ensure the stability of the government that employs him.
- Psychological thriller: In which (until the often violent resolution) the conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical.
- Rape and Revenge films: Out of the sub-genres of exploitation film, this focuses more on the thriller elements such as suspense, tension, some action and fast-pacing rather than scares and the supernatural.
- Religious thriller: In which the plot is closely connected to religious objects, institutions and questions.
- Supernatural thriller: In which the film brings in an otherworldly element mixed with tension, suspense and plot twists. Sometimes the hero and/or villain has some psychic ability.
- Techno thriller: A suspense film in which the manipulation of sophisticated technology plays a prominent part.
Thriller Planning
Our group had to sit down and think really hard on how to plan our thriller opening. It took us a while to think of the best thriller opening. We had a few ideas at first, I said to our group we should try film a drug deal being witnessed and the person who witnessed it with his camera phone had to try and escape then suddenly a man will see the witness and try capture him and the ending of the opening thriller movie will be whether or not he would be captured or not. Only one thought it was a good idea in my group but the rest thought it would take a lot of time to film and a larger group of people in the movie which i then thought it was a bad idea beause it was true it would take a lot of time and a larger group to film this.
Different Types Of Camera Angles
The term camera angle means slightly different things to different people but it always refers to the way a shot is composed. Some people use it to include all camera shot types, others use it to specifically mean the angle between the camera and the subject. We will concentrate on the literal interpretation of camera angles, that is, the angle of the camera relative to the subject.

![]() | CU - Close Up |
The close up shot is used to reveal detail. If you are shooting just the head and shoulders of a subject this is a close up.
![]() | Head and Shoulders |
The head and shoulders shot is used in news broadcasts. If you think about the television news you will realize that this shot reveals enough detail to see the subject's lips move and the expression on her/his face.
![]() | Bust Shot |
This shot shows your subject from above the knees to above the head. It is often used when the subject of the shot is doing something that requires the audience to see some detail.
![]() | MS - Medium Shot |
The medium shot is from just below the waist to above the head. There is more headroom than in the bust shot. This show is used if the person is animated with their hand movements, etc.
![]() | MLS - Medium Long Shot |
Remember in this shot to not cut ther person off at the knees. With this shot, you can still see expression on the persons face, while getting more information from what is going on around the person.
![]() | LS - Long Shot |
This shot is useful for someone that is walking or moving.
![]() | ELS - Extra Long Shot |
Also known as the Establish shot, this gives the viewer some perspective as to where the subject is. This is very important if the subject is moving to new locations or times. It lets the viewer know where the video is taking place.
![]() | 2 Shot |
Two-shots are composed when two people are in the scene and their interaction is important. A two-shot is a good way to introduce a conversation. From the introduction you might cut to an over the shoulder shot of one person talking or a close-up of the other person reacting to what is being said.
![]() | OS - Over Shoulder |
The over the shoulder shot reveals one subject as seen from over the shoulder of another subject. It simulates a view of the subject as seen from the second person's eyes. This shot is often used in conversations between two people where the dirtector wants to focus on the person speaking. Usually these shots are head shots (close ups of the speaker). |
![]() | ECU - Extreme Closeup The extreme close up is used to reveal very small details in the scene. It might be used to reveal horror in a subject (extreme close up of the subject's mouth as she/he screams). It might also be used in a mystery to show some detail that the detective picks up on or to show some small clue. |
